Health is NOT the Abscence of Symptoms
Until recently, the attitude of most scientists and nutritionists has been that if there was no scurvy, we were getting enough vitamin C . The absurdity in this reasoning is that scurvy is not the initial symptom of ascorbic-acid deficiency. It is the final stage preceding death. Enlightened physicians and nutritionists now use the term subclinical scurvy to indicate states in which we are getting enough of the vitamin to avoid symptoms of acute and chronic scurvy, but not enough to prevent less dramatic disorders.
